Principal Dr Gareth Jones
I have said it many times but it is worth repeating: September is really Ming Hua’s new year celebration, as we welcome new postulants, new lay students, and new Faculty and staff to the College!
I would particularly like to welcome our new Hong Kong postulant, Adam Mok, who starts his training this autumn. Adam will join our returning postulants Francis, Ryan, Scott, Tim, and Vivien – with Kenneth and Man Ki now heading for ordination in November.
In very exciting news, our Hong Kong and Taiwanese postulants will be joined by three ordinands from other parts of the Anglican Communion: Coryn Stanforth, from Westcott House in Cambridge, in the UK; Samuel Wang, from the Diocese of Long Island, New York; and John Thon Dongrin, from the Anglican Church of South Sudan in Africa. I cannot tell you how uplifting it will be to have such different, prayerful and faithful voices raised up in our College, and how excited our Hong Kong students are to share their ministries with brothers and sisters from around the Communion: it is truly a great blessing upon Ming Hua.
We are also blessed indeed to have our new Diploma in Anglicanism programme starting, directed by Reverend Odette Pun: we look forward greatly to many students enjoying this course in the months and years to come. And I am also delighted to tell you that several students will be taking their first classes in the College’s new taught Doctorate in Ministry (DMin) programme, thereby extending our opportunities all the way from diploma right up to doctoral levels.
New opportunities suggest also new Faculty, and I am very pleased to inform you that Dr Stephen Lim will be joining the College full-time, starting this month. Stephen will be teaching more courses, as well as taking a wider role in academic leadership and management in the College, particularly with respect to Ming Hua’s partnership with Virginia Theological Seminary, USA. Welcome Stephen!
Now, more than ever, our Church and College need thoughtful priests, parishioners, and students, all willing to do the hard work to lead our communities to brighter futures. Please come and join us for something this autumn: there are opportunities for literally everyone!
